Moses would have enjoyed seeing these.
The start of the Coniston Fell Race
seen from the former home of the Barretts.
The leaders making their way up Wetherlam
behind the house in the early stages of the
9 mile race round Coniston Old Man.
Similar fell races to the one in Moses’ poem, The Grasmere Sports, still take place today.

And another poem with a modern counterpoint is his Lament written when his Liberal Candidate
was unsuccessful.

However, think how delighted he would have been to know that our Westmorland & Lonsdale
Lib-Dem MP, Tim Farron, was elected this May with a majority which had gone from his previous
267 votes to an amazing 12,000.  What poetry!
